2010 Call for Proposals
CSTD invites speaker proposals for presentation during 2010 at a variety of professional development opportunities including:
- The Calgary Symposium: May 26-28, 2010 in Calgary, Alberta
- The 2010 Annual Conference: November 17-19, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario
- Local Chapter Events throughout the year

PROPOSAL GUIDELINES
Proposal Selection Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated and selected based on the following criteria:
- relevant learning outcomes for the audience
- clear description of presentation
- practical application of concepts to the workplace
- past speaking experience
NOTE: The sessions are NOT a platform for selling products or services.
Speaker benefits
- Complimentary event registration provided for each speaker.
- Exposure to target audience.
NOTE: CSTD does NOT pay honoraria or travel/accommodation expenses unless otherwise negotiated at the time of invitation.
Session Size
Group size ranges from 25 – 100 participants per session.
Session Length
Sessions are scheduled to last at least 90 minutes. In some instances, accepted speaker proposals may be asked to present more than once during the event. Proposals for half or full day workshops are also welcome.
Target Audience
Participants in CSTD professional development events are learning and performance practitioners, training directors, organization development practitioners, government trainers, consultants, performance consultants, learning technologists, HRD managers, chief learning officers, and professors from North America and around the world. The audience ranges from novice part-time practitioners to individuals with more than 20 years of experience in the profession. The anticipated attendance for the various events are:
- Calgary Symposium: 150-250 participants
- Annual Toronto Conference: 500-800 Full Conference Delegates
- Chapter Events: 20-80 participants
Audiovisual Equipment
Data projector, screen and wired microphone (where necessary) are provided. Speakers must bring their own laptop computers. Speakers can inform CSTD of any other needs and we will do our best to accommodate your request. However, we cannot guarantee that additional audio visual requirements will be met.
SELECTION PROCESS
Submissions are subject to peer review by the CSTD National Program Committee Members. Proposals may be in the following formats:
- Presentations
- Case studies
- Panel discussions
- Workshops
Presentation themes
CSTD is seeking presentations reflecting the following subject areas:
- Performance Improvement
- Training Design
- Learning Technologies
- Facilitation/Instruction
- Measurement and Evaluation
- Coaching and Mentoring
- Leadership and Change
- Managing the Learning Function
- Research
In the fall of 2009, CSTD conducted a survey of the topics of most interest to our members as a result, submissions that explore the following topic areas will be of particular interest in 2010:
- Best Practices in learning and development
- Research - adult learning theory and its application in practice
- Emergent learning technologies
- Experiential Learning Practices
SUBMISSION DEADLINES
December 20, 2009 - submission deadline for consideration for the Calgary Symposium
January 31, 2010 - submission deadline for consideration for the Annual Toronto Conference
February 26, 2010 - submission deadline for 2010 Chapter Events
Note that it is not necessary to submit multiple proposals if you would like to be considered for all professional development opportunities. You may indicate this in the survey and should submit only 1 proposal.

Note that it is not possible to save a partially completed proposal so we encourage you to use the submission template document to assist you in preparing your proposal. Please note, however, that only those proposals submitted using the online form will be considered.
